Results of election

Made sure to wait a few days to get all the info out...
So September 4th, liberals have finally been cast out as it's the Parti Québéquois who have won. I am quite happy about that, having voted in favor of that party. It's a minority government though, and liberals have still have a strong support in Quebec so it seems. The percentage shows it all:
PQ - 33.1%
Liberals - 31.9%
CAQ - 27.4%
QS - 6.1%
It was quiiite close in terms of vote, but what matters is the number of elected depute constituency, so more stats:
PQ - 54
PLQ - 50
CAQ - 19
QS - 2
(125 total)
Mostly liberals still have the support of the english-speaking community in Quebec, as well as older generations who doesn't care that much about "redistribution of wealth" and are tired to pay high taxes.
PQ is a little more on the right. Here's some example of promises during the campaign:
- Removing the imposed the health tax of 400$ per year
- Call for a popular referendum to become apart of Canada and be instead a country (won't happen soon for sure though, if it does...)
- Abolishing the special law that restrict the right to demonstrate
- Cancel the raise of college fees
These last two have been confirmed that they would be top priority when the new gov will be formed, so... That might just be it with all the chaos around in campus, about demonstrating and perturbing class but also removing the right for the police to arrest student who tries to protest around college campus.
I welcomed the news with relief, even though it's not done yet. Hopefully I won't have to worry about my session (starting october) being affected by the strike, neither by picket lines in front of the building.
Some more news on elections for the ones who care:
For the first time in Quebec history we have a women prime minister. Also the head of the liberals have lost in his constituency, and so announced his resignation the following day, a good surprise as well.
The former leader of the social student action (one of three association of students participating in striking around Quebec), FECQ (Federation of college students in Quebec), have been approached by PQ to give him the chance to present himself as depute, which he accepted. He won, so it makes him at the age of 20 the youngest depute to join the general assembly. He said over the media that he might begin college part time in addition to his new functions as a politician.
Finally, to end the night of election well (HUGE sarcasm here), there has been an attempt of murdering the new prime minister of Quebec while she was giving her winning speech. A deranged man attempted to set the whole place on fire with gasoline and pyrotechnic stuff. Then there would be two shots of rifle towards partisan in the crowd of the gov. As soon as the security agents heard the sound, they rushed toward the prime minister and interrupted her speech to redirect her to the back of the scene, live, on television. They then would have tried to make her exit through back door but the caught the glimpse of flames already burning behind the building. After an agent returned on stage to instruct everyone to calmly exit, no one aware of the situation yet. Then she would have come personally to repeat to them to safely walk away, but after 2 minutes or so, they had confirmation the guy has been apprehended by outside officers and they restrained the fire, so she got to finish up her speech.
The medias in-between recorded the arrest and we would hear the man saying "the English are waking up" before he was pulled in the police car. So it would seem he was unhappy about the results of election, probably because the winning party had projects on enforcing more severely the law 101, which is to insure French as first language in educational and commercial buildings.
Anyway, just a sick bastard in the mid-fifty. We would find out later on that two people has been shot, one of which died, the other, hospitalized. The shots have taken place outside the building so the man was not felt up for any weapon as there were no security guards specifically posted at the back side. Police found out the gun jammed in the hands of the murdered that prevented him from adding more victims.
Seriously, what a mad man! Although I'm not totally satisfied with the system, democracy is the most respectful and just in my opinion. You're not happy about democracy, present a better system that would work in society instead of attempting murder to the president to make YOUR opinion more important than any other citizens who have rightfully voiced their choices!
