Being taught to avoid talking about Politics and Religion has led to a lack of understanding of Politics and Religion. What we should have been taught was how to have a civil conversation about a difficult topic.
Today is a great day of sadness. My cat, Missy, has finally died from what ever sickness she had. I have cried many tears over this day, knowing that it was coming. It is finally here and I don't know what to do next. can't afford cremation, and would not have space for the ashes, anyway. I will not adopt another pet as I was not able to take this one to the vet when it could have saved her. Now I am alone more than ever, and the only good of it is that the landlord will complain less about the smell.
And all this on the part of the week when I am scheduled to have the car picked up and repaired.

Bury her under a tree somewhere so she can look up and enjoy the birds. I realize this may be difficult up there where you live and that it may be hard to get access to a wild area. Perhaps there's a park with a stream nearby that you could dig a discrete grave.
I am not going to get another pet. There were smell complaints from landlord and other renter. Now, I will have to scrub the walls and areas near her litter box for things that I can't smell because I am too used to them. The annoying thing is that I bought a $13 box of canned cat food on Sunday night. and since I used one, I have to donate the rest of the whole box. (she was too sick to eat it)
The rest of the big bag of cat litter and the rest of the delicat dry catfood. *sigh*.
I wish I could offer better words of comfort, but I know jsut about anything I could say would likely be inadequate compared to your hurt at this loss. All I can say is keep her in your heart and take things one day at a time.
(and as for a practical note, seeing your response to MelWhite...a 50/50 vinegar/water spray usually takes care of cat odors fairly easily)
