Are you intentionally causing drama to pull attention?
who on earth would quit because of that.. it's like moving to other city because this one had opened new Wallmart store
What an odd response to such a simple answer. IMVU has almost no interest in furries or their community so what's they're motivation for wanting to pay the expenses to operate and maintain this website. Either they have a model setup to monetize the services provided or they're going to setup scripts to gather data on your interests/behaviors and sell it to third party companies. It's most likely a combination of the two.
I figure if they have an interest in furries there must be some way to make money off the thing, which seems crazy to me. I don't think of furries as having any money. So freemium or something must be coming I guess. Marketing stuff to furries that isn't fursuits or art or games would be too unlikely. It's an odd demographic.
Right, that's along the lines of what I was thinking too. It's always growing and there is money to be made but not a whole lot. Now that word is spreading, even more people are leaving FA for other services so it's not going to be much of a purchase.
I read that stuff about them buying FA in order to put up a few ads in the Q&A. They could have just bought ads or brokered them with third parties without the commitment of buying the site. The drama over this alone would be enough to keep me away no matter what they do with the site.
Right, that's what I'm worried about as well. If this was a deal where the owner of IMVU was personal friends with Dragoneer and they were doing it to help him out, I would understand that completely. The only reason I can think they'd need to purchase this website is if they wanted to implement code or change the code in ways that they thought Dragoneer wouldn't approve of. Either that or they just want to gather user data and sell it to third parties.
IMVU already has a fairly strong furry contingent in their userbase and has shown a desire to increase it. The goodwill generated in supporting one of the more important furry sites is likely worth a not insignificant amount to them.
That all seems fairly logical though the flaw is that it's highly unlikely to be a long term source of income for them as furs will try it out and if they've used SL at all, IMVU will pale in comparison. Plus there's quite a few ways for them to chat with others without paying IMVU anything or having to install their client.
