Yep, I've been unwatching many artists that I used to like who now spend more time uploading YCH auction reminders and sketches than their finished artwork. If they even upload the finished pieces at all. I will always unwatch someone who does what you've just said.

And this is coming from someone who -does- support a select handful of people on Patreon. But they release everything, and do not give reward tiers. They just deserve the financial support and don't have to entice me to donate.

I agree with your last sentiment there - if I want to support someone, I'll do it without prompting. But usually that means I know them well enough to know that they a) need it, and b) deserve it. Otherwise for strangers I support them by buying comms because I like what they do.

I agree with this.
A lot of people abuse Patreon for what it was intended for in a lot of ways.
It's why I personally feel wrong using one.

Usually I say its for people that make comics for a living.
Such as
Who does the comic My Life with Fel.
That is pretty much done for free, besides patreon funding.
Sure he does closed comics for Patreon, and advertises those.
But if you're like me, and more interested in the reminders of his actual comic, then keeping him around is fine.

One thing I frown at with Patreon users is they have you pay for each submission uploaded.
So like, if it's a commission image. They are getting paid for the commission + the bullshit amount on patreon.
Which makes absolutely no sense to me.
If it was public work, or public form, like, say, me doing personal works of Aden. Okay, fine.
That just means you support my public outlet and want me to keep doing that.
But commission works are absolutely silly.

Absolutely. Vote with your wallets, eventually this phase is going to pass.

It's the constant reminder ads and "I'm streaming!" four times in three hours that gets me irritated. This is why I try really hard to post somewhat finished YCH images whenever possible, and often just one reminder, if any. Sometimes it's necessary and it does work to get new people to happen to see your work on the front page, but I'd hate for anybody to get bothered by too much advertising. And if someone gets offended by *one* reminder occasionally to help an artist survive, that's their choice to leave. There's a line between accepting that paid artists need to put themselves out there somehow, and being swarmed by ads, reminders, and BUY MY STUFF! messages daily.

That, and ultra-whiny journals about how the person can't do anything right. Sorry, but every few days it's not life being lame, it's your awful attitude repeatedly causing problems and I have no sympathy. Goodbye.

Yeh really I wish FA would add some submission flags. YCH, Stream, Adopt, and... actual art. Then instead of 125S it could say 20S, 65Y, 30A, 10B (B for broadcast instead of stream.. since submissions would be S). Then I could look at them if I want to, or carpet bomb them if I don't.

I also agree with you on the overly emo journals. I'm guilty of posting some ranty crap myself - such as this one - but I try to keep them to a minimum. I don't have much of a fanbase anyway so I don't feel like Buzzfeed or something where there's a billion people waiting for pearls of wisdom to fall out of my mouth.

But with that, I recognize a good chunk of FA are younger (under 20) and that's a rough period in life to make your way through - so I tend to excuse the constant whine posts - I just don't read 99% of them.

I've seen many artists before that would use patreon as a paywall, hell one artist, I can't remember which one went full on hardblush. after the first few uploads that were heavily focused on advertising the Patreon I just unwatched.
