Funeral
I've been quiet lately and haven't been on FA (or any other furry site) for a while. My mother recently died, the funeral was last week. So for the past weeks through my period of grief I've been thinking a lot about her life, both in recent years as well as long before my time. Also thinking about life itself in general, my own life, and God, eternity, and coming to grips with my own mortality. The funeral service honored my mother more than I had hoped. I've received a lot of kind supportive words from friends and family for which I am thankful. I'm doing a lot better now, returning to normal. I've got an attorney helping me out with the financial legal matters of the estate, hope that all goes smoothly. I still don't know what "probate" means (all these weird terms).
Last Saturday Oct 28 there was a Trunk or Treat event at a local church, so at the last minute I came in there and they let me set up and give candy out to the kids as Leostarr. Public fursuiting, woohoo! My handler bailed so I did the whole thing by myself. I was the last candy station to visit in the long line-up, and, as you can imagine, my partial suit was quite a hit. My candy supply I had brought lasted reasonably long before I ran out, and I was giving out good stuff (candy bars like Reese's, Snickers, Milky Way, etc.). Not long after I had run out, the church staff noticed and resupplied me with more candy so I could continue. Nice! Thanks guys! This is probably the first time I've done something like this in fursuit for the general public (meaning, not a convention or furmeet).
In regards to the Trunk or Treat, I have to admit it was a lot of fun entertaining the kids, as well as the adults. There were a few older kids (and adults) who wouldn't even look at me, walked right past, I'm guessing my fursuit was too cute or "uncool" for them. But then there were some little kids that couldn't stop looking at me... after meeting me and receiving their candy, they would be walking away with their parents, but kept turning around and staring back at me with eyes of happy wonder. One little boy was in a food line with his parents across the parking lot when he spotted me, and I waved, and then he left the line and ran over towards me with outstretched arms and gave me a hug, gazing up at me. Got the same treatment from a little girl, too. Really gave me a good feeling spreading happiness, just by my presence. Had a lot of pictures taken of me with kids. Costume-wise, I noticed some batman and batgirl, also some iron man ones, and a fair number of "Marshalls" and "Chases" from Paw Patrol. Now, kids aren't the reason I fursuit; I generally prefer the convention scene with furry adults, but I did have a really good time last Saturday. Got my mind off of other things. Planning on returning next year, hopefully in a full suit!

It sounds like you are holding up well. Hang in there.
Yeah, I'm pretty much back to normal, just starting to enjoy furry stuff again.
Glad you were able to get out and suit some! Public suiting is so much fun for me, I'm glad yours was a positive experience even without a handler.
Yes! Too bad I don't have any pics from the event. Sounds like you've done some public suiting yourself. Maybe I'll get some more in over the Christmas holiday this year, we'll see what happens.
It sounds like your public fursuiting went pretty well, for which I am also pleased. :)
Yes!
Being with children during a time of loss, especially in such a positive way, was a great idea. Just as a life ends, there are new beginnings all around. What church was it? Maybe I will show up next year, too.
Yes, that same thought suddenly occurred to me while the event was happening, very well said. Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene in York. Not the church I attend but they were very welcoming and well organized. I'll let you know when they have it next year.
