FTM19 status

Snow is falling again outside right now. Not laying on the roads or sidewalks yet, but that will change as the temperature drops. Prediction is 4 to 8 inches. Or 3 to 7. We'll see. Looking to be a cold week. Well, it's March. One more month to make it through, then the worry of winter weather will be mostly (if not all) behind me. For this year. One major reason not to schedule important events requiring travel over January, February, or March. It's hit or miss.
For this reason, I have not preregistered for FTM (FurThe'More) this year. The moving up a month of this con from April to March is a mixed blessing. On the positive, it balances out the cons I like to attend by more evenly spacing them with approximately 3 months of recovery time in between each. This is good, especially for finances. But having a con in March also increases the risk of having ice and snow, making travel dangerous or impossible. So I can't guarantee I'll be able to go because I don't know what the weather is going to be like. Not going to commit to nonrefundable con expenses such as registration and a hotel room when weather could strike and cancel it all. The drive down is a haul for me normally, and would be horrible in snow & ice. That would majorly suck.
If the weather is good, I contemplated coming down last minute and attending Saturday only, then going back home Sat night which wouldn't be a problem, but found out FTM does not do single day passes. I'd have to pay for Saturday and Sunday together. Staying over to Sunday would be fine I guess, I'd get two days out of it... but then I'd have to get a hotel room, and I'm thinking at this late point that's going to be too much for me. A positive take from this is, if I don't go to FTM and don't get a hotel room, this greatly increases the chance for me to attend Anthrocon this July, which I haven't been to since 2015.
So I'm not planning to go to FTM this year. You know, I never bother with the convention themes but this year I really like the theme- 007 James Bond! I was going to walk around the con wearing my black suit with white dress shirt and a black bow tie, taking pictures with my DSLR (sort of a Bond cosplay). I will especially miss the dance competitions & all the amazing fursuiters of course. But I'm good. If any of the con is streamed (hope it is), I will make my best efforts to participate via livestream, as I've done with the past 3 Anthrocons. They were still really fun to watch.

However, if you can go to Anthrocon, that's great! I don't have any panels this year so I'd be free to hang out most anytime that weekend. I got in at the Courtyard this year! I need a Hawaiian shirt as the theme is South Pacific. :)
Yeah, I will definitely feel the loss next weekend, but if Anthrocon works out as a result, it will be a good trade-off. Let's say it's now a high probability I will be at AC.
Wow, the Marriott Courtyard? The one on Penn Street a half block from the DLCC? I stayed there once, for AC 2010, staying with someone else who had gotten in. The Courtyard was nice, beds were bigger than the Westin's, and I like the restaurant on the first floor (I eat brunch there). Tried to get in myself for AC2012 but was already sold out- within seconds after opening. Good job getting in there!
Wishing you a good time at FurThe'More!
I'd love to do more cons, but they're so far away. FA:U and FTM are the closest ones. I would consider ANE if I lived closer. Kind of like MFF and others; just too far. One day I'd like to go to Texas Furry Fiesta just because a friend attends it regularly.
See you at Anthrocon, hopefully!
Who would team up with you for the ChimChallenge? People that want to win!
Yes, my Anthrocon attendance has moved up from a vague chance to now a high probability. Once I make the move to preregister and secure a hotel room, it will be a sure thing. Should know in the next two weeks. Will look for you there if I go (and if you go).
Btw: Good to hear from you and hope to see you soon. :)
