Honestly, the way I have been trying is by checking Twitter often. I do see that some artists actually change their name to include Commissions open. I'd like to see more of that honestly.
But really it's all Digging and watching lol.

I just check twitter whenever I get the chance, every so often if I see a commission retweet I check the uploader's page and just send them a message asking if they are open.

Oh my god, I really despise using twitter for commissions. It feels like you can only get a handful of tweets that include memes, art posts, replies to other posts, random posts, all this stuff is mixed in with the commission listings and sometimes artists I wanna see.

One of the biggest problems that I have is that some artists will post reactions to a tweet or meme about, but then they won't post art that often. Essentially, their art portfolio is cluttered with many other posts and it's hard to get a read on them. Compare it to FA, where you can look at the artist's gallery and see everything you need to see right then and there.

Frankly, it feels like a mess to try and use Twitter as a commissioner and at times, I can see how an artist can have trouble. In a perfect world, every artist could make their own website to set themselves up for commissions, but it doesn't seem like that's happening anytime soon.

I turn on mobile notifications for the artists I actually want to commission, and if they have an announcement tweet, it shows up on my phone. Then, it’s assumed I’ll be able to throw them a commission request I’ve had stewing for a while, and boom, easily secured commission

The problem with that is you still get all their other tweets. Like I mentioned, I was flicking away retweets from one artist and I must've missed a commission opening tweet, since I saw later they had opened.

Its certainly harder if you're looking a specific artist. If you're waiting for one than the only real option is to turn on notifications and tolerate the spam.

Beyond that I've created a side blog where I reblog every commission sheets and announcements I come across as i'm following 1k+ blogs now.

I hate that artists use Twitter to advertise commissions, as I've closed my twitter account. :(

As bacon and many others have saidI just check it often and post that commissions are open, I try to pin that tweet or my Patreon tweet to the top of my page to make it more easily find-able and as you've mentioned I also to change my twitter name to comm : open to try to help increase a little traffic as well.

That could work, but I see a lot of artists who retweet their commission info. So do you still get a notification if an artists retweets their own tweet containing commission info? If not, then it wouldn't be beneficial.

Oh dang, I just found out how to do this. @_@ Thought it wasn't possible at first, haha. There's still the issue of the fact that some people just tweet a lot (cause hey, that's what it was built for I guess), but this helps a bit I guess.

i thought just trying to see whos open here was a nightmare.
i don't even wanna know how bad it is on twitter, especially with so many artists disabling DMs and seemingly having no way to just ask them questions.
i really don't like twitter much personally.

I personally got sick of twitter as a game dev too much politics and other crap drama. I only going to reopen twitter for my game dev stuff later on but I'm not going to interact much on it. I'm annoyed artist are using it because of tumblr banning porn

Dude, nah, it's dogshit. I'm tracking FA and NG at this point and given up on anything else. Join some art Discords isn't a bad idea.

Hmm, how is NG for tracking openings and such? Is it even active? Kinda feels like it's just another back up that'll just fade away since Twitter/FA are still bigger.

Artists will go where the audience is, ultimately, not the other way around. I'm gonna hang out there and if I miss openings, it hurts most artists more than it hurts me.

I found a few artists on twitter who have pinned their commissions sheets so that it appears at the top, but overall I wouldn't recommend Twitter for finding commission info.
Repeating what Kazuel mention, discord is a great place to meet artists. If you're interested in joining another discord server or two I could toss you an invite. My discord handle is Zero_Raider1#0745

Sadly twitter has not made for such stuff, I believe all artist should pinned their commissions rules and availability on their main tread as soon as possible.

Sadly Kaite I dont believe there is a clean way to search trough ones followers or even a single user for commission info, once again twitter has not made for it and it might blow for same reason on future.

as for retweets there is a way to deactivate then on "turn on/off retweets" options , it might be useful for those artist that share alot of stuff.

Nevertheless I hope you can find a good way to solve this, its also a thing I want to find cuz is becoming rather difficult to follow all the artist on twitter.

Yeah there are so many reasons why Twitter does not work super well for finding artists open for commissions Q_Q; However, I myself am open, if you're interested. <3
