Yeah, that's a little like clearing out a roach infestation in your house by burning the village down. It's not an ideal solution by any means.
Maybe they could implement a safeguard, where if you repeatedly follow/unfollow someone, it prevents you from using the function for some time? I'm not a coder, but if possible that just seems like an ideal solution.

That's possible, but would be more work than simply blocking notifications from the blocked person. You'd have to maintain a counter, check it everytime someone tried to do a qualifying action, tell them there's a cooldown if they hit it, and then have some process in the background that reaps expired counts.

It could all be done automatically though, assuming the coder isn't a quack. And it's more forgiving than a simple block.
But yeah, as you said, that'd require some work to be put in. And with FA having such a huge chunk of the furry community in its pockets already, there's little incentive for them to go out of their way to make improvements. Basically: The dark side of capitalist thinking. -_-

At this point, expecting FA to update in any positive way seems like a lost cause. If they were able to do it they'd have done it already. But regarding your problem, ya, that's one big hammer they used to kill a fly.

my ex blocked me years ago but she's one of the best damn artists i've ever known so i still follow her work. though out of respect i don't bother her anymore. though i know she dislikes that i'm still using this animated icon she made for me all those years ago. (it was part of a pair so it'd look like our characters were licking each others tongues. hence the heart in the upper corner. but damn if this aint just the most awesome depiction of my male sona i've ever had so... fuck it. it's mine and i'm gonna use it.)

simple solution: make no "favorite was removed" notification. whoever was ever happy about a comment or fav just to have it read "was removed by the user"?

I agree those are dumb, but you'd still have the problem with people subbing and unsubbing to spam.

I think it's simple, just put a check, if the same notification already exists, remove the older one and keep the newest one. Guess FA needs more donations for programmers. :3
