It's late compared to when I thought I'd release it (end of 2009) but it's time to finish this album :) It closes with what might be the fastest-paced song on the album, but it includes a couple of much slower sections as well. This song grew from a pre-chorus that I thought up all the way back in the middle of 2006 - like a lot of things, it stayed around in my head for a while and didn't get worked up into a full song idea until much later on.
When I first laid out the track list this one was originally called "The Last of My Angels", but I felt it was too similar to "Angel Eye", and that "Carry the Rings" was a much better title (and a greater hint to what the song was actually about). But the interpretation is up to you!
Now that the album is finished, you can download the complete set of high-quality MP3s from my Bandcamp account. You can download the individual songs for free, or get the whole album through the "Download Album" link for $4 USD along with a bonus track, front and back jewel case, source files for all songs and two early scraps. I'll announce this more widely later in the week!
Lyrics
I had a dream, where I was floating
In a dark and rusted sphere
With nowhere left to go
Catching glimpses of
The golden light surrounding me
I couldn't reach the world beyond
Even though it seemed so close to me
With every door just unreachable
I'm chasing unreality
Back down to earth and all the hardships of the world
Driven mad by darkness, sound and blinding light
Make the dream reality
As you carry the rings across the sea
Travel on to find your brave new world
You're so close and still so far
I have found my final angel
A voice beyond the wall
And the sphere of rust will fade
As thirty-two surround us all
At the speed of sound I travel
To reach your sight again
Though I'm leaving all behind
I'm coming home
The last of my angels
Time slows down, and I'm awake again
I could turn my back here and be saved
But now I've come so far
And I can't give up
The end is finally in my sight
And even though I'm still here stranded on the ground
There is someone there who waits for me to fly
Make the dream reality
As you carry the rings across the sea
Travel on to find your brave new world
You're so close and still so far
I have found my final angel
A voice beyond the wall
And the sphere of rust will fade
As thirty-two surround us all
At the speed of sound I travel
To reach your sight again
Though I'm leaving all behind
I'm coming home
The last of my angels
Into silver light I fly away
Break the sphere and see the city of forever
I've chosen you as you chose me
And the rings will carry us both into eternity, oh
Make the dream reality
As you carry the rings across the sea
Travel on to find your brave new world
You're so close and still so far
I have found my final angel
A voice beyond the wall
And the sphere of rust will fade
As thirty-two surround us all
At the speed of sound I travel
To reach your sight again
Though I'm leaving all behind
I'm coming home
And I will find you
And the bond that we created
Extends beyond this life
We will go wherever you believe
Ascending side by side
I have found my final angel
And you have found your own
We'll be leaving all behind
And coming home
The last of my angels
Carry the rings across the sea
And you know just where I'm going
I'll return again some day
Escaping now the unreality

This is actually a really neat way to finish the album. I wasn't sure how you could put anything after Find You, but I think the faster pace on this one really helps the album to pick up after that and keep going as it reaches the finish line. Your choices were pretty much either that or the complete opposite approach (like how Blind Guardian's A Night at the Opera has ten completely bombastic songs in a row to the point where it's the only album I own that is actually physically exhausting to listen to all the way through, and then Mies del Dolor as the after-dinner-mint-like track 11) and since you already used your ballad slot (or at least the closest you've ever come to one) on One Perfect Soul, I think this was the most logical way to finish. The last time the actual song order (and how it affected the pacing and such) affected me strongly enough to actually be something I noticed was when I praised Edguy's Tinnitus Sanctus for it, but this definitely manages to catch my attention as well. :)
That was pretty much my exact way of thinking - in fact, when struggling to finish it, I even considered throwing this one out entirely because Find You sounded like such a good ending. But I did get something I liked out of it eventually, so this one instead occupies a sort of extra slot after the big finish, and I managed to sort of make it sound like it had a reason to be the very end of the album!
Song order is something I try to pay attention to, as it's surprisingly difficult to decide... I think I sent you the track list before I'd even started working seriously on any of them, so obviously trying to keep within that first idea before knowing how any of the songs would come out was a bit of a handicap.

Working an entire epic project series around a pre-established outline that incorporates all of it? Now that's just silly. :)
Would the bonus track be the full version of "My Children," by any chance? This package sounds appealing to me and I want it, though I do have to be careful with my purchases doe to the continuing lack of wealth....

It is! The full pack has that, a couple of song scraps that were abandoned or reworked, cover artwork and the source files for all the songs, but if you're just after the extra song, I'll be releasing it on here at some arbitrary point in the future anyway. (Maybe when I've had a drier than usual submission spell.)
If I'm ever going to do that story-based concept album I mentioned I'm going to have to plan it all out in advance carefully first rather than changing any of it on the fly... that's going to be a challenge.

Tempting! Now I'll have to decide what to do.
As someone who just plotted about eight parts into the future after never having done anything remotely like that before, I can say it's quite tough, but also rewarding, but it also drives you completely insane with anticipation in the earlier parts. Do you have any idea how epic the conclusion to chapter eight of my story is going to be? No, of course not, and you won't until I do the entire rest of the series first. Argh!
