I see maria walking on over to greet me and hesitates after I don’t return her greeting. We take a deep breath and sigh.

“Sorry, Maria. But we’re going to go this one solo tonight. We’ve been thinking this through for a good part of the month and we’ve decided that we’re going to go after that woman in red directly. To take the fight against Team Rocket rather than simply let things continue as they are. But, doing so would be illegal. We do not have any authority to attack these facilities. He gave me a list of Rocket bases and I’m going to hit as many as I can before the night is through. And I’m not going to simply wait for the condition to trigger when I beat all their pokemon again. Instead I’m ignoring the pokemon and going straight for the trainer. And what I’m doing could get me arrested. But I have some leeway in that so long as I don’t get caught, it’ll be hard to press charges once I regain my human body. But if you’re there, you won’t have that protection. They’d lock you up for being a rogue pokemon, take you away and likely keep your ball in some box until you die of old age. And that’s why you cannot go with us.”

Her ears droop as she hears the information. It’s probably very hard on her as I’m sure she looks forward to these nights, but it is for the best.
