“And if it’s a trap?” I ask.

“That’s fair,” Lumen shrugs and turns around to start leaving. “It very likely could be. I’m not telling you to go to that facility. Legally speaking I can’t. I’m required to tell you to not break the law. But unofficially, even if you don’t take my word that we won’t go after you so soon, at least not without a massive media spin to turn the people against you first, that you probably should expect a trap. Whoever is responsible should know you’re after them, and ordinary grunts wouldn’t do more than slow you down otherwise. But we’re heading out soon,” he waves as he starts walking off. He pauses and shouts back. “I still intend on proving myself to you, one way or another. I’ll get you to trust me with your life if it’s the last thing I do, even if I never get your affection.”

I dwell on the notion and consider his words. I’m not sure what to make of them. If what he said is true he’s given us a bigger lead than we’d been able to get on our own. But the main question is how much do we trust it. Maria reaches down to pick it up. Either way we’ll have to figure out a secure location to see what all information is in it, but that’ll have to wait for past tonight.
