“So there you two are,” I hear from nearby, breaking me from my thoughts. I turn and see Lumen heading towards us. “You know, I had half thought that when you went to get your things you’d have left the badges behind and gone home. Didn’t think you’d be just waiting around. Glad you did, because that would have been annoying to track you two down to get those badges back.”

Maria shrugs and hands over the two badges back over to Lumen.

“You never answered my question,” I say quietly as an answer.

Lumen sighs as he puts away the two badges. “And that’s because I honestly don’t have one. I could give you my personal guarantee that I would never accept that job, but we both know that doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. I can say it wouldn’t happen anytime soon. It would be an extremely bad look for the mayor to be publicly getting your help then immediately having you arrested. That said,” he reaches into a pouch behind his back and pulls out a small thumb drive, “the notion that they are constantly making more of you is a concern. And though you are behaved, the odds of encountering one that isn’t will only go up. So I’m giving you this,” he says, tossing it over to us. “We gave a copy to that shinx we saw you with at the Festival as well. It’s the location that you all keep coming from. It’s not tied to Rocket and has not done anything illegal that we can prove so we can’t make a move on it at all. Do with the information as you will, but just know that next full moon all enforcement will be conveniently absent from that area for the entire night.”
