awol stylus
i was hoping my new one would be here by now, but of course its not. my stylus went mysteriously missing from my desk and i've torn the house apart for days looking for it. its no where. so i've had to order a new one. pulling my hair out over here as its really set me back in work and i'm trying hard to hold onto this creativity I'd finally managed to build up, however its beginning to falter. please stylus be here soon.

I also don't usually put my stylus in my pockets. hell i don't even leave my desk with it, in three years i've not lost it because i drop it on my desk before getting up by habit. but it's not here. I have no recollection of taking it with me. the couple times i've left my desk with it I turn around like 'why am i carrying this?!" and take it back... that didn't happen. i don't know where it wandered off to or how.
It's good that it turned up, Wacom way overcharges for those things - probably knowing they are likely to get lost.
And yeah, you're totally right. Last time I ordered one it was like 68 USD??? Jeez.
Wacom is clearly gouging, yeah. The replacement stylus' from them are >this< close to being the same price as a new tablet + stylus. Meaning the tablet is essentially free? No, it's just as expensive if you order it separately. And if you have one of the more high-end tablets, like a Intuos Pro, don't even think of losing that stylus. There have been rumors for some time about the flimsy USB ports and if that was a way for Wacom to make more money. I don't know about that, but the replacement stylus certainly seems like gouging.
It's interesting you mention the flimsy USB ports because I lost TWO ENTIRE Intuos5's to that problem. Jak sent me his old one about..4 years ago? Since then, I had to buy two new ones when I lost it briefly and both of those new ones broke within 4 months due to their USB no longer functioning. It was on the tablet, not the wire, as different wires didn't fix it. And yet? The old, half chewed one Jak sent me STILL WORKS PERFECTLY.
So there may be some truth to that after all. :/ But yeah, they have the monopoly and they sure do take advantage, don't they? :C
Wacom continues to act like they have a monopoly, even though their no-battery patent ran out some time ago. Ok, they invented something really cool - and they got to gouge us for 17 years because of it. Now they need to move on and either innovate, or become competitive. Yeah.
If only the Monoprice tablets didn't feel so ... weird (at least to me).
Also I agree. They're going to fall behind if they don't update their M.O. >_< Sadly, as you say, I have grown so used to their tablets that anytime I use anything else, I end up having a lot of trouble and everything comes out gross. Bleh!!
My advice to people wanting to use something like that is to try it out. A lot. Before plunking the money down. Some people I know love them. Others ... not as much. But it's an expensive proposition to just buy one and see if you like it. I guess it depends on the person and how it fits into their own workflow.
And yeah, I'm with you on the feel. I don't have a lot of experience using a lot of different tablets but I have tried a few and most of the cheaper tablets just feel... cheap to me. I don't like it. So I understand why Wacom is the market leader. But as you say, you can only ride on your laurels for so long before someone will come along and kick you off the pedestal, right?
And yep. Totally with you. It's a totally different feel. <_> And yessiree, guess we'll see what Wacom does in the next few years. They'd be great if it wasn't for the mad prices and mechanical issues. @_@
It's actually good to know it's not just me. The people I know who have the cheap, knock-off stuff aren't artists - in that they use their tablets for stuff other than drawing. So they don't really have an opinion on the subject. I'm glad to hear it's not just me who thinks the Wacoms have a much better feel than the cheaper stuff. It's not really something I could put my finger on, it's just "I like this over that" kind of a thing. Good to know it's not just me.
And yeah, totes agree on the mad pricing. Even used stuff on eBay and the like goes for crazy prices. Used Wacom stuff going for more than new Monoprice stuff! I'm with you in hoping they (Wacom) gets their stuff in order and improves their product (and their pricing)!
I hope your setup gives you many more years of use. Because, you know, I want to see your art continue on. And not be mouse art in MSPaint
ungh I hope it does cus then i'd have a spare
That or it rolled into Narnia.
You probably poked poor Mr. Tumnus' eye out with that thing.
