It's been over a month since Forest Wolf

spottedsqueak passed away. I debated writing this journal at all since it's been a while and I have already said so much and done a lot of grieving. But the pain is still here in my chest, and I want to remember him, and I want people to know how special he was. Many people have already written very touching journals and messages and I encourage you to read those. Here's my piece:
I had found Forest through his webcomic, Forest Wolf! Adventures, some time around 2009-2010. It was an adorable webcomic that I enjoyed following. Cute and goofy. I soon followed him on here FurAffinity not long after, where I got to see his fun and lovely work. His comic with the Face Beam (https://furaffinity.net/view/3301228) will always be my absolute favourite.
We didn't interact much for a while. But, unbeknownst to me, we floated in similar circles.
And then he started posting stuff on his spottedsqueak account. That's when I started to get to know him better. I joined his patreon, I joined the server, and I got to know Forest for who he truly was.
Forest was a kind-hearted, generous, goofy, and energetic person. He was always pushing himself to work harder, to get stuff done, to improve his skills and learn new things. He was always stressing about doing enough for his friends and patrons, even though we all frequently told him he was doing plenty. He'd come up with the best/worst puns imaginable to make everyone groan, which I loved. He never seemed to rest. I believe he is quoted saying "Give me enough time, and I can do anything." It really seemed to be true. He was full of new projects, new passions. Did you know he was working on learning music? Did you know he could code and was working on a game? This Wolf/Mouse would be a one-person game studio, I swear. He ran an entire funding drive to help Kim-Chee afford her transition surgery, including animations, comics, and other commissions. He used his patreon funds to help his friends out rather than enrich himself. He worked a full time job on top of doing his Patreon!
There was a lot about him that I related to, that I felt we were on a similar wavelength about. I loved his passion, his drive, his goofyness. But we never got too close. We had talked a little over DMs, but not a lot. He was always so busy, I never wanted to steal more of his precious time than he could give. I thought we'd have more time to build a deep friendship.
One day, out of the blue, he asked me to moderate his drawing streams, to help with a bit of the load his discord mods had been handling. Of course, I accepted, and I took the job seriously. He deserved that and more. Though the streams rarely needed anyone to moderate them. He had attracted a group of other incredible, kind, and compassionate people around him. But still he asked. As Katie had reminded me after the fact, he had a hard time trusting people with stuff like this. I am honored to have ever had that trust.
I'm honored to be able to call myself his friend.
On September 3rd, 2024 Forest Wolf passed away. I learned about it on September 4th.
My heart was broken that day. My heart is still broken.
If I counted since I found his comic, I have known of Forest for 16 years. If I counted since I joined the server and got to really -know- Forest, I've known him for 6. But no matter how I break down the dates, he had been a bigger part of my life than I ever realized. His server was one of the few I took time daily to be active in, his streams were the few I'd actively try to attend, even before I was a mod. More than most, I'd make funny pictures or memes to try and make him smile and laugh.
I still cannot believe he's gone. That this wonderful, amazing person could disappear between the blinks. I miss him so badly. I want him back so badly. It hurts. How could he just be...
gone...
He never got the time he deserved. He didn't get the time to really learn music or make his game. His comics are almost all left unfinished. His plans were all cut short. It rips me up inside to think about how all of this passion could be snuffed out so quickly, all these things left, alone.
But not forgotten.
His discord server, his friends, his family, all went into mourning. But more than that, they came together to help each other out. To grieve, to cry, to check in on each other, to make sure they were eating and drinking.
Forest was an incredibly special person and he had brought together a large group of very special people with him. We had a memorial in VRChat, we held calls to commemorate his memory. Kim Chee got him tattooed on her back. I got his paw and (as of writing this - soon to be added) his mouse's spots on my wrist. Art poured in from those affected, those who knew him, who loved him. Together we donated enough money to charity for 269 trees to be planted. So that could be -his- forest.
I've met so many wonderful, talented, loving people through Forest, through his server over the past few years. I can only hold them closer now, and help them out as best I can. to make sure they know that even though Forest isn't there, can't reply, what he built still is, and the love he felt is in those connections. Many of them have likewise reached out to me and helped me when I've been down. And I've been down a lot over the past month.
We will all remember him, we will all re-read his comics, look over his art, we will remember stories and memories of the wuff. I built an Archive of his patreon to make sure it couldn't be lost. We will hold him close, and pass on his light to each other.
I still cry at losing him. I loved that wolf. I loved that mouse. I loved that man behind the screen. He was incredible, he was amazing.
I'm not okay. Not right now. I won't be okay for sometime. But I will be okay, thanks to the community he built, and the kindness he encouraged in all of us.
If I could ask anything of anyone still reading, it's to look at his art, look at his posts, and remember him. Spread his name and work. Let his legacy grow bright across the internet.
I miss you, Forest. I love you, Forest. I will never forget you, Forest.

Vore Month 2021
Posted 4 years agoWow, it's been so long since I've made a journal I legitimately forgot how to do so.
Vore month has come and cone, August is wrapping up to an end and September encroaches, bringing with it it's spicy gifts of pumpkins, changing leaves, and the crispness of autumn.
I challenged myself to write a story every day for Vore month, something quick'n'dirty to get some stuff online and to practice my writing. While I definitely didn't hit a story a day, I did manage to put out 15 stories of dubious quality. That's seriously a big accomplishment for me. A big reason I don't get things done is I try and be perfect about the best way to do them. The hardest part about writing is trying to find the best words to use to describe the emotions of a scene. If I stumble, I quickly lose steam and stop.
And I have received nothing but positive feedback for these stories. It really is that cake meme where the artist thinks their cake is bad, but the consumer is like "Sweet, two cakes!"
I am proud of what I accomplished. I want to take this and keep going.
That said, I definitely burned myself out near the end there. Doing a story a day like this was a lot. As a very important adult with many busy things to do, there were many nights I shirked my sleep schedule to get a story done. That's simply not sustainable. I may try something similar in November, who knows, but I will definitely try to pace things better and, perchance, reduce the goal to something more manageable.
I want to keep writing, and I want to keep putting out hot vore stories. I think some of what came out of this month would warrant expansion, or re-writing with a higher focus on editing and quality afterwards.

Akrham Asylum and Aperture Science Badge Commissions OPEN

Inspired by myself, and Batman (because everyone should be inspired by batman) I decided that I should do Arkham Asylum Badges! The money from these really go into paying my student loans off (of which I have a lot of |3 )
Of course if you're still wanting to get an Aperture Science Badge those are still available.

Each commission is $25 CAD each. To order a commission you must note me via FurAffinity and tell me you would like one. Once you do so I will add you to the list above, and make a quick sketch. Once you are happy with the sketch, you will need to pay me through my Paypal (which I will send you via note reply) the full $25 CANADIAN. Afterwards I will proceed to complete your badge and send you the PNG file and PSD file via Email. NO HARD COPIES WILL BE MADE. I'm sorry, but I am not skilled enough to print out, laminate, and add a clip to all these badges. If you wish to have a solid real life copy, you must do it yourself.
Please make sure you send me money in CANADIAN DOLLARS not US DOLLARS or any other form of payment. I apologize for the inconvinience, but it's far easier for you to do the conversion once than me to do it multiple times and lose money. If you are unable to pay me in Canadian, please add a couple dollars to compensate for PayPal conversion fees.
FOR ALL BADGES:
You may describe one character of yours to be put into the badge. You can dictate the pose, how they wear their uniform/costume, and what objects are included with them.
FOR ARKHAM ASYLUM BADGES
You may choose one villain for your character to portray. This can be a DC Villain or an OC villain. Please NO MARVEL VILLAINS. Simply for the fact of trying to maintain some sense of canon. You can let me know if you want to follow a specific iteration of a villain, but you must link at least one image of the villain to me for reference along with your character.
FOR APERTURE SCIENCE BADGES:
For the sake of aesthetic, I am limiting your choice of objects to 1 other object + the portal gun. This means your character can be seen with a turret and the portal gun, or a companion cube and the portal gun, but not with say a turret, a companion cube, and the portal gun. There may be exceptions to this rule if you feel you have a good idea. If that is the case, please note me. The portal gun itself is optional if you choose not to have it, but doing so will not automatically allow you to have another item in it's place.
REGARDING CORRECTIONS
I have heard horror stories about people keeping artists on a continuous loop of corrections over and over again. To avoid this I am limiting people to one round of corrections. This means after you have received your badge, you may point out anything that needs to be corrected then and I will do so. After that I will not be making any new corrections. I will be open to making corrections on the corrections, but if you didn't mention it the first time, it cannot be that important. Please make sure you state all the changes you want made as early as possible, to ease the correction process. Even as early as the sketching stage will work.
REGARDING REFUNDS
If I give you a sketch and you are unhappy or find you do not have the funds, let me know. From there you won't need to pay, and I will stop working on your badge. If you have paid in full and have NOT RECEIVED YOUR BADGE and you find I am taking too long, or you find yourself in sudden need of the money, I will refund you. if you have received your badge, you are not eligible for refund.
REGARDING POSTING YOUR BADGES
Please let me know if you do not want me to post your badge online. I would like to post it so I can show others my skill and hope they will want to commission me themselves. But there are obvious reasons that people will not want me to post them, if this is the case, just let me know ASAP and I will refrain from posting it.

What's Going on with the Nuzlocke?
Posted 12 years agoI bet many of you are wondering what's going on with the nuzlocke comic. By many, I mean all five of you who actually read it.
Well two things, which both merge to become one thing. And the one thing is that the nuzlocke comic is over. This is for two reasons: one is that I have honestly become too busy at the moment to work on the comic. I recently got a second job, I'm doing a math course for school, and I'm trying to do pokemon mystery dungeon explorers, all of which takes a lot of time, and I'm beginning to feel myself burn out. I don't even really have time to play pokemon yellow.
The second is, I failed my nuzlocke. Yup, all my pokemon fainted, so I cannot continue. I intend on finishing the final page, although it will be, and already is, late, and I will explain how I failed there. Point is the comic is over. I hope you all enjoyed it =3 and I hope to work on something similar soon.

Posted 14 years agoHey guys, just giving everyone a heads up that I plan to play pokemon and livestream it at about 5 o'clock PST on wednesday the ninth. Last time it went pretty well, not a lot of people showed up, but I managed to entertain for an hour.
For those who don't know, which is probably most of you. I livestream me playing pokemon, currently the original pokemon red, while I read out whats said and commentate over it. So far I haven't scared anybody off, so thats good. I will post a journal on wednesday before I start streaming, and I'll tweet with a link. Hopefully more people will join in this time! Joining in lets you contribute by suggesting names, pokemon i should check, and suggestions for other options that I may deem worthy of you.

Lord of the Rings

Note that none of us were wearing anything very odd, Drake had a green shirt and a leather jacket, I had a red hoodie, and morrogh (the draconic one for those who don't know) had a blue trench coat. nothing totally strange, when suddenly these two guys who we passed us shouted "Hey! Lord of the rings!" ... that was it.
What the fuck was that? was it an insult? if so, I should have shouted back "Basketball!" it would have made just as much sense! since when was a movie title/book title an insult? I think I would have felt better if they shouted "nerd!" because at least they also would have made some semblance of sense! But no, they shouted "Lord of the Rings!" which means, you know, ABSOLUTLY NOTHING. Lord of the Rings itself doesn't mean anything! lots of non nerdy people have watched the movie. If they were trying to mock us, they failed so completely that it astounds me.
What confuses me more is, how the hell did they know we were nerds? Yes I admit it, we are nerds, sit at our computer and video game, whatever. but... how would they know that? Nothing that we were wearing indicated any form of nerdery or geekery. If they could deduce that we were nerds, yet couldn't come up with any semblance of an insult, then i really have to question their sanity and ask how they can breathe and walk at the same time.

So, I guess an update is in order for all you in furry land.
I'm moving, not terribly soon, but soonish. october 16th is the date when I move from my parent's place into a place of a friend of the family's. I am still looking for a place to live though, since I don't want to stay with the family friend the entire year, so if you're in dowtown vancouver, canada, and open for me to move in, let me know.
Also, I'm getting an iPhone 4. I know what you're thinking: "What?! an iPhone 4? I thought you hated phones! you rich brat! I thought you were moving and had no money! liar!" Well, yes and no. I do hate phones, with a bloody firey passion of a thousand suns. but living in vancouver, I will need a phone. And while I would prefer an android or something else, an iPhone is the best option for me at the moment, since it's cheap (i'm paying $120 after taxes and all) and it's on my parent's family plan, meaning that calls between us are free and unlimited, and the plan itself is cheap. so it works out favorably for me.
And you might also be asking this question "Why are you moving?" Well, I am going to Vancouver Film School for a year for a video game design course. it is a four year course jammed into a single year, so it will be intensive AND it is expensive. I expect right after the course i'll be headed back home to work off my debt. But hopefully i can get a job somewhere in video game design because it is an area I feel I want to go into.

Also, I'm getting an iPhone 4. I know what you're thinking: "What?! an iPhone 4? I thought you hated phones! you rich brat! I thought you were moving and had no money! liar!" Well, yes and no. I do hate phones, with a bloody firey passion of a thousand suns. but living in vancouver, I will need a phone. And while I would prefer an android or something else, an iPhone is the best option for me at the moment, since it's cheap (i'm paying $120 after taxes and all) and it's on my parent's family plan, meaning that calls between us are free and unlimited, and the plan itself is cheap. so it works out favorably for me.
And you might also be asking this question "Why are you moving?" Well, I am going to Vancouver Film School for a year for a video game design course. it is a four year course jammed into a single year, so it will be intensive AND it is expensive. I expect right after the course i'll be headed back home to work off my debt. But hopefully i can get a job somewhere in video game design because it is an area I feel I want to go into.

Posted 14 years agoYeah, I dropped from VOCT. No drama or anything, I didn't feel like anything was unfair or I didn't like someone or some stupid shit like that.
No I just don't have the time or the energy. Work recently amped up my hours, so I havn't had a day off in weeks, and because of that, i havn't had much energy to spend outside of work, let alone on VOCT. I really just feel like I cannot put enough energy and thought into VOCT as it deserves, so I am dropping out. Sorry to all my fans (yeah, cause I have THOSE haha, i'm so funny.) I met some great people, did some great writing, and I hope next time will turn out better.

Late october I need to move to Vancouver, Canada for a year to go to school, and it's all well and good, I'm getting the money I need, and finding a place shouldn't be too difficult. The problem is I need a roomate. Badly.
It's near impossible for a guy on student loans with no job to pay the rent of an apartment by himself, it costs $2000/month in some places! but if I get a roomate or two to spread out the costs, this would be very VERY helpfull.
So if you're interested in moving for a year in mid - late october, let me know! and we'll talk about it!

Update on NaNoWriMo
Posted 15 years agoHey guy's I need to give you all an update on NaNoWriMo, if you care.
As of right now, I'm not going to try and complete NaNoWriMo. This is because of a multitude of things, A, I have two jobs that are eating up my time, B, I also do a segment of ACTfur on Air (check it out, it's awesome) and the art for Voremon, which I admit I've let slide a lot recently, and need to get up on, and D, the story isn't interesting me enough anymore.
this does not quite mean I'm quitting, I will be trying to write what I can, and will be posting what I did write, unedited, for all to read. this is just me saying, I will not make the 50,000 mark like everyone else is striving for. I started stretching myself too far again, and when that happens I lose the drive to do everything that needs doing. for those interested I'm at 11254 currently, if I was serious in doing this, I should be at about 25,000 by now.
